Savaştepe is a municipality and district belonging to the Balıkesir Province in Turkey, distinguished by its prime geographical location and rich history dating back to the Ottoman era. The district spans an area of 427 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 16,765 according to 2022 statistics. It is situated 315 meters above sea level.

Historically, the oldest Ottoman records, dating back to 1530, refer to the region as "Nahiye-i Kiresun." In 1573, it was recorded as Nahiye-i "Girsun." This name continued to be used in Ottoman records until the early years of the Republic, adapted to suit Turkish pronunciation in various forms such as "Giresin," "Kirasun," and "Girson." Foreign sources refer to the area as "Kirasin (Kiresun)" and "Kirisun."

The current name, "Savaştepe," is a tribute to the heroism of the local people during the War of Independence. It was bestowed upon the region, then a sub-district, on October 10, 1934, upon the suggestion of Atatürk. Savaştepe then became a district under Law No. 6325, dated March 4, 1954.

Geographically, Savaştepe is located in the southern part of the Marmara region, covering an area of 43,000 hectares. Elevations above sea level range from 200 meters to 800 meters, while the elevation in the district center is 280 meters. The region enjoys a transitional climate between the Marmara and Aegean regions. Forests cover a total area of 13,439 hectares and generally consist of red pine, black pine, and oak trees.

Balıkesir Province, to which Savaştepe belongs, is a city adorned with islands and lush forests stretching along the coastlines. It is renowned for its abundant olive groves and the tulip flower, which is its symbol. Tourism in Balıkesir relies primarily on beaches and summer tourist activities such as sailing and fishing, as well as resorts, archaeological sites, historical mosques, and churches scattered throughout the province, which number 178 historical sites.
